Job Description

Job Summary

Synechron is seeking a Java Developer with 5+ years of experience to design, develop, test, and maintain reliable Java applications. The role will work with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable solutions, resolve technical issues, and support continuous improvement across the software development lifecycle.

Software Requirements

Required

  • Java 8+; Java 17+ preferred
  • Spring and Spring Boot
  • Microservices and REST APIs
  • Hibernate or comparable ORM technology
  • Gradle and Git
  • CI/CD pipelines
  • Basic Linux command-line skills
  • One or more of MySQL, Oracle, or SQL Server
  • Experience with Eclipse, IntelliJ IDEA, NetBeans, or a comparable IDE
  • Unit and integration testing

Preferred

  • Struts
  • Spring Data, Spring Security, or Spring Cloud
  • Cloud platforms and containerization
  • Application monitoring and logging tools

Overall Responsibilities

  • Develop, test, and maintain high-quality Java applications.
  • Design and implement services using Java, Spring, and microservices principles.
  • Write clean, efficient, secure, and maintainable code.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues within agreed timelines.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, deployment, and release activities.
  • Collaborate with business, product, quality, architecture, and operations teams.
  • Contribute to Agile planning, estimation, documentation, and continuous improvement.
  • Stay current with relevant Java technologies and development practices.
  • Consider performance, scalability, security, and responsible use of technology resources.

Programming Languages

Essential: Java and object-oriented programming.
Preferred: Java 17+, scripting or additional programming languages.

Databases and Data Management

Essential: SQL, relational database concepts, transactions, indexing, and experience with MySQL, Oracle, or SQL Server.
Preferred: Database design, query optimization, migrations, or NoSQL exposure.

Cloud Technologies

Essential: Understanding of applications deployed in hosted or cloud environments.
Preferred: Cloud deployment, containers, orchestration, and monitoring.

Security Protocols

Essential: Secure coding, input validation, access control, data protection, and vulnerability awareness.
Preferred: Spring Security, token-based authentication, and security testing.

Experience Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional Java development experience.
  • Experience with Spring, Java frameworks, relational databases, CI/CD, and application support.
  • Experience working in cross-functional or Agile teams.
  • Financial services, consulting, technology, or other regulated-industry experience is preferred but not required.
  • Equivalent practical experience, technical training, certifications, open-source contributions, or substantial project work may be considered in place of some formal requirements.

Day-to-Day Activities

  • Write, review, and maintain Java code.
  • Develop APIs, services, and database integrations.
  • Create and execute automated tests.
  • Investigate defects, logs, performance issues, and production incidents.
  • Participate in daily team meetings, planning, refinement, reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to clarify requirements and select solutions.
  • Maintain build scripts, CI/CD pipelines, documentation, and release materials.
  • Make implementation decisions within established architecture, security, and delivery standards, escalating significant risks when needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Equivalent professional experience may be considered.
  • Java certification is preferred but not required.
  • Completion of required Synechron onboarding, security, compliance, and project training.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development in Java and related technologies.
